The World is for Exploring

Ernie the Emu knows it: the world is full of wonder! He and his mates are ready to venture out to see, hear, smell, and feel everything around them.

Ernie’s Journey is all about saying “YES” to curiosity, discovery, and adventure.

A ‘YES’ Day of Exploration

At Emu Gully, it’s “You-Choose-Day.” Whether it’s splashing barefoot in a creek, climbing hills, crawling through tunnels, walking trenches, or wandering through forests, it’s a day of freedom and exploration.

We want children to:

• Explore and play freely, developing a sense of curiosity and excitement for the unknown.

• Explore together, because every adventure is better with mates.

• Reflect on discoveries, using each new destination as inspiration for their next big adventure.

This isn’t just a journey—it’s a story. With Ernie’s Journey, a beautifully illustrated storybook as their guide, participants will follow Ernie’s footsteps, making their own discoveries along the way.

How It Works

• Start the Day with Ernie
  The program begins with the story Ernie’s Journey. Participants read the first few pages before setting off on their adventure. Ernie and his mates guide them as they explore Emu Gully’s unique places and spaces.

• Discover Along the Way
  Guided by our program staff, students will find Ernie’s mates and uncover hidden treasures. Exploration includes activities and plenty of chances to play in nature.

• Reflect on the Adventure
  As the day winds down, participants return to the story. Reflection pages in the book allow children to draw and write about their discoveries, creating their own “Map to Treasure.”

Program Features

• Age: Designed for students in Grade 3 or 4

• Duration: One-day program with options to extend to dinner or an overnight Friday stay.

• Meals: Morning tea, afternoon tea, and lunch provided.

• Activities: Guided exploration, nature play, and hands-on discovery.

• Keepsake: Each student receives a copy of Ernie’s Journey to take home.

Optional Add-Ons

• End the day around a campfire, sharing stories and celebrating a day of adventure.

• Extend the experience with an overnight stay, creating even more memories with friends.
